Ground Glass Holder

I've been giving some thought to how to make a glass holder easier.
Well, a while back I was at the fleamarket, just browsing. I found a large box of camera parts and goodies cheap. In it were a dozen wood 4X5 film holders.

I took one and removed the slides and center film support. I also removed the locking lip from the one side. I then scrounged around in the shop for something the right thickness for setting the glass at the right depth. Mine needed to be .192 ".
I finally found three different pieces of glass, that when held together by one layer of Scotch tape, equaled .192".

I laid the film holder frame on a flat surface, with the taped together glass in the center. I then inserted a piece of ground glass in the opening, frosted side down.
I mixed up a batch of 5 minute epoxy and applied this to the four edges.
When hardened, I had a ground glass that was the proper offset for my film holders.

This saved me alot of machining in the shop to get the right depth. Now I can make more very easily.
